Finally the unlucky spell ended and in some style.
Chez Vegas owned by Chesterfield Estates - went into his race on Saturday at Doncaster - unproven on his last two runs.
Scott and the team had always thought highly of this fella ( known in the yard as Sunny) we had needed to be patient with him as he is a big horses and still needs time to fill his enormous frame.
We headed to Doncaster knowing that he was fit - but in pretty exalted company and on his first time on the turf we were still unsure how he would handle the surface and the going.

Last week saw our frustration continue with a run of second places. Socialites Red ran a brave race and was just nobbled on the line on May bank holiday Monday at Beverley. Dr Red Eye followed up the next day at Catterick with yet another second place.
The following days we did not have much luck and we are looking forward to a change of luck this coming week.
Our two year olds are really starting to blossom now and we have for us some more staying types who will want 6 & 7f. They say patience is a virtue lets hope so and our time is coming.

Last week saw the speedy Coiste Bodhar - win at Pontefract - ridden by Natalie Hambling in the apprentice race. Natalie got a great tune out of him - and this little horse is for sale.
The owners have re invested in younger horses so he needs a new owner in our yard. We can keep 50% of him and open to offers on him.
The last week has been a memorable one due to us having four second places - from the remainder of our runners. Its been such a good week - but frustrating at the same time.

After hitting the crossbar twice last week with narrow defeats from Abi Scarlet at Southwell and Dr Red Eye at Catterick both of whom ran exceptionally well and were unlucky in the final furlong, it was a fantastic to get the first turf win of the season out of the way on Monday at Redcar.
Albert Boy ran a brave race when 66/1 at Doncaster Racecourse on 28th March, and was returning to the racecourse in great spirits. The ground showed no problem to him and he cruised to victory by 3 lengths. It was a pleasing start to the week for One Call Insurance - John & Carolyn Radford with winners all around as they also gained success from their football team Mansfield Town.

Our Doncaster weekend was not a stellar one this year unfortunately - and the going was a major concern for all trainers. Not a good grass covering and very heavy. Our best result was with Albert Boy owned by John & Carolyn Radford of One Call Insurance. John & Carolyn are fantastic owners and I am lucky that they have supported me. Welfare of their horse is paramount and they enjoy every run whether their boys' come first or last. As a local family they were very keen to have a runner at Doncaster on the first Premier meeting - so it was down to Albert Boy to come up with the goods. The race looked on paper a very high class field - with some fancy priced colts and fillies entered with Derby and Oaks entries. Albert Boy - did not let them down and was only caught for second place in the last furlong. His fitness will have held him in good stead - but he did give his owners a great day out and a good shout for their money ! That is what we pride ourselves on here at Scott Dixon Racing - ensuring we please our owners !
